Bridging the Gap Between Agriculture and Horticulture
Farmers and gardeners both operate on the same principle – encouraging nature to grow and develop toward a specific goal, whether that’s yield, nutritional value, aesthetics, or some other group of favored characteristics. Both rely on the soil, fertility, environmental conditions, and proper management to achieve desired results.
Unfortunately, however, there seems to be a barrier between these branches of study. Two sisters with a passion for horticulture and a propensity for learning are working to change that.
Erica Lawrenz, 40, and Heidi Zierdt, 47, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, have been dahlia people their whole lives, a status they’ve proudly inherited from their parents and grandparents.
