As time passes in agriculture, there has been a marked trend of land and operations consolidating to form larger and larger farms. From one generation to the next, it seems that fewer and fewer operations carry on, as the young often don’t take up the mantle, especially when only a few hundred acres comprise an operation… Unfortunately, it often doesn’t make financial sense. Josh Kruse, 46, of Huxley, Iowa, is bucking this trend, though his path back to farming turned out to be a surprising one, even for him.
