Should I use a corn rootworm Bt hybrid or can I get by just adding insecticide at planting?

I’ve heard these questions from more farmers this winter than any time in my 30-year career. In some areas, corn rootworm pressure has been on a steady rise. In others, rootworms are just always a problem. Even if corn rootworm feeding is considered low to moderate on your farm, I’d contend that the amount of yield loss and stand issues this bug can cause justifies dealing with it one way or another.
